KDYS

KDYS Community youth work

UBU – Your Place Your Space project is a KDYS managed service funded under the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY) through Kerry Education & Training Board (KETB).

KDYS manages five UBU projects in Kerry: Tralee, North Kerry, Listowel, Castleisland and Killarney. The service identifies, recruits and engages targeted young people aged 10 to 24 years of age. Young people are enabled to realise their maximum potential, by respecting their rights and hearing their voices, while protecting and supporting them as they transition from childhood to adulthood. Through UBU, young people are free to participate in a wide range of quality activities that are flexible and responsive.

UBU project workers engage with young people using a wide variety of youth work based methodologies to provide meaningful interventions, in order to help young people gain positive outcomes connected to communication skills; confidence and agency; planning and problem solving; relationships; creativity and imagination; resilience and determination; emotional intelligence.

Each project aims to provide young person centred out of school supports to young people in their local communities to enable them to overcome adverse circumstances and achieve their full potential by strengthening their personal and social competencies.
